Devo 15: Psalm 134
Come, Bless the Lord
A Song of Ascents.
134 Come, bless the Lord, all you servants of the Lord,
who stand by night in the house of the Lord!
2 Lift up your hands to the holy place
and bless the Lord!
3 May the Lord bless you from Zion,
he who made heaven and earth!
Devotional Thought:
We finish our 15 week devotional through the Psalms of Ascent on the shortest psalm of this entire set! It’s a short psalm focused on blessing God and being blessed by Him. Just like a Sunday service this psalm starts with a “call to worship.” The Psalmist calls us for all who consider themselves servants of the LORD to come into God’s holy temple and bless Him. And just as well the psalm ends with a “benediction.” This usually comes at the end of the Sunday service where the pastor pronounces God’s blessing upon the people as they are sent back out into the world with God’s blessing. Not only is this meant just for Sundays but it is for every day of our lives! Everyday we live to bless and worship God in all that we do. And since we already have the greatest blessing in being made one with Christ, we can wait expectantly and enjoy all the blessings that come from Him. It is as the 1st answer says to Westminster Shorter Catechism Q1, “Man’s chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.” Praise God from whom all blessings flow!
How has the Lord blessed you this week? And how can you live to bless Him and others?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, as this psalm says, we live to bless You, for who you are and what you have done for us. Even in the midst of finals, help me to worship You in all I do, to receive the blessing You have for me, and to be a blessing to others. In Christ’s name I pray, Amen.
